Autumn: The Perfect Time to ‘Fall’ in Love with Niagara-on-the-Lake

The crowds have cleared, the mosquitos are gone and the temperatures are still pleasant. In our opinion, autumn is one of the best times to visit Niagara-on-the-Lake. Just because the summer months are long over — that doesn’t mean our region is winding down for the year. Just the opposite! There are wonderful things happening around town. And as always, Lakelands B&B would love to accommodate you during one of NOTL’s favourite seasons.

Harvest Time is the Best Time for Winery Visits

A lot of our guests ask us to recommend the best times to visit wine country. And we always tell them the vineyards are splendid during the harvest. Right now, the vineyards are right in the middle of this very important season. Most of the grapes in NOTL are finally ripe, which means winemakers are bustling with activity. Popular vineyards like Peller Estates, Jackson-Triggs and Trius Wines are only eager to give visitors a guided tour during the harvest. Learn how grapes are picked, processed and converted into your favourite wines. Take a look at the various tours available on our Packages page and we’ll be happy to organize the perfect one for you!

Fall Biking Around Town

We recently discovered a great online resource for those looking to explore NOTL by bike. The Niagara Cycling Tourism Centre offers comprehensive maps of beautiful routes throughout the region. Our favourite maps are the Wine Route and the Niagara River Recreation Trail. Feel the cool breeze as you leisurely pedal past picturesque fields and pretty boutique shops along the way. Be sure to stop for a break on the historic Queen Street. The tourism board’s fabulous restaurant directory and shopping guide showcase local businesses you won’t want to miss.

Lakelands is also proud to announce that it’s become an official member of Ontario By Bike. This online network encourages people to explore our beautiful province via cycling. It also offers tips on bicycle-friendly accommodations and a wealth of useful maps to plan your next journey.

Jam-Packed Calendars

The months of September and October are full of local events, including the Niagara-on-the-Lake Ultimate Foodie Tour. This popular walking tour takes place Thursdays through Sundays until November 27th. The guided 3-hour session will introduce you to the fabulous flavours of our regional cuisine, and is organized by Niagara Culinary Tours. Another local favourite is the Grand Canadian Steampunk Exposition at the Famous Fort George from September 23rd-25th. What is ‘steampunk’ you ask? Do you enjoy hybrid exhibits that combine history and science-fiction? Well, steampunk incorporates technology and designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery! Interesting, right? If you’re curious about this little-known movement, the three-day outdoor event features engaging workshops, elaborate presentations and a nighttime concert. All of this takes place within a Canadian fort commemorating the famous War of 1812.
