Lakelands is Open for 2017!

We’re approaching Victoria Day long weekend, which means it’s the unofficial start of summer! Our wonderful little B&B has re-opened for the season, and we expect this year to be the best one yet. Whether you’re heading down to visit the farmers’ markets or the famous Shaw Festival, Lakelands is ready to host you for another spectacular season in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Throughout the year, we’ll be updating you on all the events happening around town. And whenever your hosts, June and Zoli, stumble upon a local treasure — we’ll be sharing these anecdotes with you. But for our first post of 2017, we’d like to share some of the things we’re looking forward to this season!

Saturday Morning Farmers’ Market

The ever-popular farmers’ market is back! Do as the locals do and check out this weekly tradition in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The Saturday Morning Farmers’ Market happens every Saturday morning, beginning May 27th. This weekly gathering is a treat for anyone who values fresh, locally-sourced foods from the region’s best vendors. All produce is 100% Niagara-grown and sold directly by the people who grow it. The Farmers’ Market opens at 8am, but wraps up at 1. So if you’re heading in from the city, get here early to get your hands on the freshest items. Afterwards, check in at Lakelands B&B to continue on with your wonderful stay at Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The SupperMarket

Put together by the organizers of the Saturday Morning Farmers’ Market, The SupperMarket is another highlight of the season. If visiting NOTL on the weekends is not an option for you, why not drop by for a mid-week treat? Every Wednesday evening — from May 24th to September 20th — come to the Village for a true taste of Niagara. This weekly gathering features more than 20 food trucks and food vendors for a culinary extravaganza. You’ll also find local craft beers, savoury wines and delicious cider to accompany your meal. And no dinner event is complete without some local entertainment! So join us Wednesdays at 111 Garrison Village Drive from 4:30pm to 9pm. In NOTL, good times aren’t just for the weekends!

Shaw Guild Garden Tour

We just had to add this event to our first post because so many of our guests appreciate Niagara’s stunning gardens. On Saturday, June 10th, join other garden aficionados for the Shaw Guild Garden Tour. We’re excited about this one because the organizers have promised an expanded version of this annual event. This year, the tour will include beautiful gardens in our Old Town, plus the nearby village of Queenston. Apart from hundreds of perennials and unique trees/shrubs, you’ll also see ponds, waterfalls and fabulous views of the Niagara River. And gardens are only as beautiful as the properties they accentuate — many of them encircle magnificent historic homes that are worth exploring as well. Get your tickets fast as they’re sure to sell out at just $25.00 each! To purchase, click here.
