Our beautiful country turns 150 this year, but our pretty little town has been celebrating this wonderful occasion all year long. The really BIG birthday party, however, takes place on Canada Day long weekend. And here at Lakelands B&B, we can’t wait to spend the time with other proud Canadians like you.
If you’re wondering how you’ll celebrate Canada 150, look no further than Niagara-on-the-Lake. We can’t wait to entertain you with fabulous food, live music and good company. So read on to see how we do things on Canada Day here at NOTL!
July 1, 2017: Pancake Breakfast & Lunch
Head over early and kick-off Canada Day celebrations with a delicious meal served by the NOTL Rotary Club. At 8am on July 1st, start your day right with a pancake breakfast at Simcoe Park — just around the corner from Lakelands B&B. Take in the sunshine and smell the flowers as you share a meal with new friends. Then stick around for a slice of our famous, giant Canada Day cake!
July 1- 3, 2017: Artistry by the Lake
At NOTL, we like to celebrate local artistic talent all year round. But exceptional recognition should be given to our artisans on this very special Canada Day long weekend. That’s why we encourage you to check out the annual craft show ‘Artistry by the Lake’. The juried event will feature paintings, jewelry, pottery and so much more. Located in a picturesque setting at Queen’s Royal Park, shop for beautiful treasures as you look out at the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. Admission is free, so drop by on July 1 – 3 between 10am to 5pm.
July 2, 2017: Concert at Butler’s Barracks
Are you a fan of great Canadian bands like Blue Rodeo and City and Colour? If so, Niagara-on-the-lake has a stacked roster of Canadian talent to keep you entertained this long weekend. Join thousands of other fans for a much-anticipated concert at Butler’s Barracks National Historic Site. You know there’ll be a lot of laughs between sets — because the event will be hosted by Wayne and Daryl from the Canadian sitcom ‘Letterkenny’. Tickets already went on sale mid-December, but you may be able to score some last-minute passes. More info can be found here.
July 3 & 4, 2017: Tall Ships Regatta
If you can spare an extra night or two in NOTL, why not check out the Tall Ships Regatta? The Niagara region has an illustrious history of shipbuilding. And much of this is thanks to Niagara-on-the-Lake’s strategic position at the mouth of the Niagara River. On July 3rd and 4th, visitors are welcome to board reproductions of two famous tall ships: the Mist of Avalon and the Denis Sullivan. These tours are absolutely free, thanks to generous grants from ‘Canada 150’ and the Ontario Ministry of Tourism. And of course, no celebration is complete in NOTL without some live entertainment as well!
